Mindful Autumn Fare

Feel the cooler air?  See the dwindling sunlight?  It’s becoming Autumn.  As the season changes, it’s time to shift our lifestyle and diet with our Coach and Chef Fern Wilson.

Why a shift in diet?  Different foods are being harvested and are coming to market. As the Great Mother Nature would have it, the foods that are produced each season are perfectly designed to support our bodies.  As we move indoors, we seek warmth and comfort to face the impending cold days of winter.  Even our cravings tell us to eat differently, to turn on the oven, to cook our foods for satisfying comfort and nourishment.  It’s time to ease off the cold smoothies for breakfast and light salads for lunch and dinner.  This type diet produces airiness which is great in the summer heat but can cause us to become spacey when the weather turns cooler.  It’s time to shift the energy and to transition towards the sweet fruits and vegetables from the fall harvest – foods that will help balance and nourish us, helping us to feel grounded, centered and calm. Starting now to shift our diet from the light, airy summertime foods to warming winter foods will help to rebuild our body and bolster us during the cold winter months.

Our delicious Menu:

  • Moroccan Sweet Potato-Lentil Stew
  • Herbed Flat Bread with fennel and cumin
  • Pan Seared Veggies
  • Silky Chocolate Pie

The menu for this evening’s supper is designed with this end result in mind.  The warming soup made with seasonal vegetables accompanied by a bread and cooked vegetables will nourish our body and, as a bonus, we will receive some healthy, sensory pleasure from the creamy-tasting chocolaty dessert.  By eating in the spirit of mindfulness, we can savor all the nuances of the food and appreciate the companionship.

In order to accommodate different diets, the meal is gluten free and vegan.
